Parking RFID Hang Tags: Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) readers have been installed at all the entry and exit points of each assigned location. New parking hangtags with embedded RFID chips have been distributed to students and faculty/staff enrolled in the assigned/semester parking program. The new hangtags will be read automatically and open the gates as you enter or exit the parking facilities. The RFID Hang Tag device provides a “Hands Free” parking access experience for our customers.

To help ensure proper operation:

• RFID hang tags must be displayed hanging from the vehicle rearview mirror. Hang tags must be displayed with the WSU Warrior Wordmark facing out (toward the windshield) during all times when the vehicle is parked in as WSU lot or structure.
• Metal and other radio frequency hang tags (toll passes) may interfere with the proper operation of the WSU hang tag. Please remove these items in order for your hang tag to operate without interference. Place the WSU hangtag as close to the windshield as possible. Please remove all other items in front of or behind the WSU hang tag, including old WSU hang tags.
• In order for your RFID tag to work properly it must be used in sequence, in then out of the parking area. Failure to use your parking tag in sequence will result in access being denied.
• Approach the gate slowly at a rate of no more than 1 mile per hour and be prepared to stop as equipment takes time to read and register each RFID tag. Speeds in excess of 1mph may cause failure to read RFID tag.
• Do not Tailgate. Please leave room between you and the vehicle in front of you as you approach the gate. Good rule of thumb is ½ car length.
• If the gate does not open with your RFID hang tag use your OneCard to enter the parking area. See a parking attendant or call the parking office to notify parking that your hang tag did not work.
• Please turn in all other WSU Parking hang tags you have in your possession. They can be turned into any parking attendant, the parking office or any WSU housing unit’s front desks.
• The RFID hangtag is intended for the sole use of the individual to which it has been assigned.
• Please ensure proper care and handling of the RFID hang tag as it is reusable and will be used for multiple years.

Parking & Transportation Services is on the MOVE!

New State-of-the-Art Parking Technology improved parking at WSU:

• Improve traffic flow entering and exiting parking areas
• Provide real-time parking lot counts to prevent overcrowding
• Installation of credit card payment devices at pay parking areas
• Improved directional signage

Parking structures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and lots 41, 50, 75 are being retrofitted with new parking equipment. The equipment consists of:

• Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) readers
• OneCard exit readers
• Centralized, real-time vehicle count equipment
• Web-based space counts for students to view before classes
• New signage
• Credit card in/out machines to replace slow, inefficient cash machines

RFID:These readers will be installed at all the entry and exit points of each assigned location. New hangtags with embedded RFID chips will be distributed to students and faculty/staff enrolled in the assigned/semester parking program. The new hangtags will be read automatically and open the gates as you enter or exit the parking facilities.

OneCard:OneCard readers will be installed at all exit points. Parking patrons who are not using the new RFID system will have to swipe their OneCard both upon entering the parking facility and also upon exiting. This change will facilitate the real-time, web-based count system below.

Real-time vehicle counts:With accurate vehicle counts at each facility, the Parking Department will be able to maximize the use of each facility. These counts will be available on the web to aid in locating available parking before leaving home or work for class.

Web based space counts:Real-time available space counts will be available on the http://parking.wayne.edu web page. A mobile app will also be forthcoming for smartphone users.

New Signage:Additional signage will be added at the entrances and exits in each of these facilities to help patrons navigate each facility.

Credit Card In/Out: Students, faculty/staff and guests have all requested credit card capabilities for convenience and transaction speed. Credit card machines will replace cash machines in each of the facilities listed above, where applicable. Credit transactions will require swiping at both entry and exit. Cash machines at parking facilities not listed above will remain in place at this time.

To fund these improvements, and to ensure that we can keep our facilities properly maintained as part of our multi-year budget and facility plan, parking rates will increase by $0.25 per entry for all WSU students, employees and visitors who pay on a daily basis and by $0.25 per day for those WSU students, employees, residents and retailers in the Assigned/Semester Parking program.
