Parking Projects - Spring/Summer 2019

Parking Projects - Spring/Summer 2019

As part of Parking Services continued improvement efforts, we are pleased to announce the following work scheduled for this spring and summer. Construction will begin late April with substantial completion expected in late August before Fall classes begin. We look forward to the long term benefits of the ongoing maintenance, repairs and upgrades and apologize in advance for the inconvenience.  For questions regarding general parking, please contact Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) at parking@wayne.edu.

For your safety, please pay attention to all construction signage, barricades and traffic cones. Enter the parking structures and lots with your headlights on and be extremely cautious through the re-routed traffic areas. Construction workers will be frequently traveling throughout the parking facilities. For worker's safety, please pay attention to construction equipment and personnel as they work to improve our parking facilities.

Major projects consist of the following:

Structure #1, 450 West Palmer:  Structural concrete repairs, including hydro-demolition, and other work including waterproofing, painting, and signage. Levels 1-5 in bays 5 & 6 to be closed for the majority of the summer, as well as 200 localized spaces throughout the structure, and intermittent stair tower closures (elevator towers unaffected). Gate 1, the north entrance/exit, will be closed throughout construction beginning Monday, April 22. All assigned parkers are asked to use any of the other gates along Palmer.

Structure #2, 5150 Lodge Service Drive: Concrete and waterproofing repairs in localized areas on all levels throughout the structure. 400 rotating parking spaces to be closed for the majority of the summer.  Intermittent stair tower closures (elevator towers unaffected).

Structure #4, 555 E. Canfield:  Elevators will be modernized with all new mechanical and electrical components.

Structure #5, 5501 Anthony Wayne Drive:  Concrete and waterproofing repairs on all levels.  Levels 2, 3, & 4 to be closed for 5 weeks beginning May 20, then localized closures of 200 parking spaces for the remainder of the summer. During the closure period, if the first level and outside surface lot portion of the structure fill, prepaid assigned parkers will be able to use either Structure 1 or 2 depending on their preference. Access to Structures 1 and 2 will be automatically added to Structure 5 assigned parkers as to not delay their access during this period. Also, at Structure 5 the Kirby side entry/exit drive lanes will be redone. New hourly parking equipment, with ticket spitters and pay on exit credit card readers, will be installed at both Kirby and Anthony Wayne Drive entry/exit gates.

In addition to the major projects, many other projects will be ongoing including, concrete and asphalt repairs, striping, power washing and more.
