Faculty and staff parking
All full-time and part-time Wayne State University faculty and staff are eligible for the assigned parking program. They can also choose not to join the parking program and park in general parking areas with their OneCard or park in locations that will accept credit cards or cash. Faculty/Staff Fall 2021 Parking updates
The return to campus this fall will eventually include paying for parking again.
Wayne State's Parking and Transportation Services team is cognizant that flexible work arrangements may mean that some people will be on campus less often and may not wish to pay parking fees for the times they work remotely. Between now and Oct. 1, Parking and Transportation Services will monitor usage rates and investigate potential technological solutions given its existing infrastructure to determine if it can offer additional parking plan options.
In the meantime, those enrolled in monthly payroll deductions will continue to be able to park at no charge through September. Payroll deductions have been suspended since April 2020. To prevent deductions from being reactivated, employees must submit a Cancellation Request Form prior to Sept. 10 to allow time for processing.
Those who are currently not enrolled for monthly parking deductions have the option to sign up for it, use parking, and cancel prior to Sept. 10 without a payroll deduction. However, there is a nonrefundable $25 cost for the required Radio Frequency Identification hangtag.
Employees are encouraged to begin determining whether they want to stay in an assigned parking program, pay daily on their OneCard or credit card, or find alternative parking/transportation.
Faculty and staff who park three days a week or fewer can save money by using their OneCard to park at a reduced daily rate.
Wayne State's parking rates have not increased since 2019, and will not increase this fall. The most common parking rates are listed below as well as a sample price comparison to aid you in making your decision:
|Category||Premium parking||Non-premium parking||Access||Sample expense for three days (non-premium)|
|Payroll biweekly deduction||$57||$45.50||Unlimited||$45.50|
|OneCard debit||$8.75||$7.50||Price per entry||$22.50|
|Credit card||$9.50||$8.50||Price per entry||$25.5|
Please keep in mind that part-time and temporary employees are not eligible for payroll deductions and must either add money to their OneCard or pay with a Credit Card to park.
As employees weigh their decision, they should be aware that the university is finalizing the details of a new partnership with MoGo (Detroit's bike share system) that will allow all Wayne State students, staff and faculty to sign up for a free annual pass good for unlimited 60-minute trips throughout the year.
Wayne State is also working with DDOT and SMART to allow all Warriors to ride both bus systems and the QLINE streetcar at no cost to them (students can currently ride all three systems for free by picking up a 31-day Dart pass at The W Food Pantry).
If you would like to discuss your options, have any questions or are unsure if you are currently enrolled in the parking payroll deduction program, please contact email@example.com or call the OneCard/Parking Service Center at 313-577-CARD (2273).
